The Jurmala Open Air Museum, as a custodian of historical heritage and a popularizer of Jurmala's oldest main occupation - fishing - is located near the mouth of the Lielupe River into the sea, by the Ragakāpas nature trail. The museum consists of a 19th and 20th century coastal fisherman's homestead with its characteristic buildings, a rich collection of boats and anchors, and fishing vessels. The museum can boast a unique collection of string and rope winding accessories and tools in terms of diversity and authenticity.
During the season, in addition to an educational guided tour of the museum, groups and individual visitors have the opportunity to reserve the museum territory for various interactive events.
Interactive events:
Fish smoking demonstration (~2 h)
An opportunity to observe the traditional fish smoking process, participate in the preparation of fish, and finally enjoy hot-smoked fish.
Smoked fish and beer tasting (~1 h)
Tasting provides an opportunity to get to know local flavors and culinary traditions in cooperation with catering establishments of the customer's choice.
Demonstration of ancient crafts (~1 h)
An opportunity to get to know ancient crafts related to fishing and coastal lifestyle, of the customer's choice.
Traditions group (~1 h)
An interactive event with a folklore group includes singing folk songs, folk dances and games, creating an authentic and interactive experience for all participants.
