The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk is one of the main swamps around Kemeri, under which sulfur water is produced. The soil of the bog land is poor in nutrients, acid and in many places hydromorphic. Most trees are not able to survive in such harsh conditions, therefore only a few tree species can be found here – pine and birch, and they do not grow as large and wide as in the forest.

During the passage of migratory birds, the bog is a great place for bird viewing. Sometimes you can see flocks of hundreds of birds flying over the bog land – geese and cranes, as well as hear the sound of their cries in the air.

The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk will allow you to easily and safely explore this difficult to access land of moss, small bog pine trees, acacia, dark lakes, and the scent of wild rosemary.

The boardwalk is built of wooden boards and runs two arcs. The “short one” will take you to the first picturesque lakes, while “longer one” will allow you to view the landscape from the observation tower.

During the summer there is an open-air hot meal service. Visitors are offered a range of products – grilled meat, sausages with sour cabbage or potatoes, ice cream and hot (coffee, tea) or cold (water, juice) drinks.

Tables and benches are available for visitors and barbecue equipment can be rented together with a private picnic place away from the crowds. The rent costs 15 EUR. Food on delivery is available.

The Ķemeri bicycle rental on the railway station "Ķemeri", which is provided by the Cyclist Safety and Education Foundation, offers a special price of 5 EUR for bicycle rental to visitors of a Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk.
