The Jurmala Cultural Space and Environmental Design Centre preserves and studies the city’s cultural heritage, with a special focus on safeguarding wooden architecture and maintaining the aesthetic quality of the urban environment.

The permanent exhibition “Fragile” introduces visitors to the ornamental woodcarvings of Jurmala’s historic summer houses – from 19th-century folk motifs to Art Nouveau decorative forms. The exhibition features authentic architectural elements crafted by local artisans, revealing the distinctive language of Jurmala’s architecture.

The Centre is also involved in the design of new public space objects and the maintenance of historical monuments, fostering a balance between heritage preservation and contemporary urban development.

In the Centre’s first-floor hall, both educational events and exhibitions of Latvian art are held, and admission is free.

Opening hours (for exhibition visitors):
Tuesday–Friday: 11:00–18:00.
Saturday: 11:00–16:00.

    Exhibition of works by artist Indulis Zariņš “THE ROMANTIC. THE COLORIST. THE MASTER.” | Jūrmala Centre for Cultural Space and Environmental Design

    The exhibition has been created in collaboration with Rietumu Bank, the Zuzeum Art Museum and the Zariņš family, presenting the work and artistic legacy of the outstanding Latvian painter Indulis Zariņš (1929–1997).

    The exhibition concept and selection of works were developed with the assistance of Kristaps Zariņš, Rector of the Art Academy of Latvia, continuing the dialogue with Indulis Zariņš’s artistic legacy and the painting school he established.

    The exhibition is complemented by photographs and biographical archival materials from the archives of art historian Ingrīda Burāne and the Zariņš family, offering an opportunity to gain a closer insight into the key moments of Indulis Zariņš’s life and creative work.

    During the exhibition, a documentary film from the “Māksla” film journal (1986) will also be shown.
