Exhibition “From Jūrmala to Roņu Island. Painter Voldemārs Caune – 125” | Bulduri Exhibition Hall
- Wednesday, 6.May - Sunday, 5.July
- Bulduri Exhibition Hall
- Muižas iela 6
The exhibition is dedicated to the anniversary of the outstanding representative of Latvian figurative painting Voldemārs Caune (1901–1975), revealing an important theme in his work – coastal landscapes and the life of fishermen. The idea of the exhibition is also based on the historical context of Jūrmala art, referring to the summer exhibition traditions of the 1930s, which enriched the cultural life of the city and attracted wide public interest.
The exhibition features works from various periods of the artist’s creative work – from the 1930s to the 1960s. It features both natural views of Jūrmala and images of fishermen, as well as landscapes of Roņu Island and portraits of residents, which reveal the lifestyle and character of the people of the Baltic Sea coast. The artist has captured both the everyday life of fishermen and the unique world of the island's inhabitants with subtle psychological nuances. The exhibition also features the significant figurative composition "Ancient Music. The Players of Alšvanga" (1940), which symbolically marks changes in the artist's life and in the context of the era.
The exhibition was created with the support of the artist's family.
