A New Audio Guide Released in Jūrmala – “Kaugurciems Story Trail”
A new audio experience has been introduced in Jūrmala – “Kaugurciema stāstu taka” (Kaugurciems Story Trail), inviting visitors to discover one of the city’s oldest and most historically layered neighbourhoods.
The trail reveals the hidden past of the ancient fishing village of Kaugurciems – from the Riga–Courland–Prussia trade route and the harbour established by the Dukes of Courland to the battles of the Latvian War of Independence and the enduring rhythm of coastal fishing life that shaped one of Jūrmala’s earliest resort areas.
The audio guide is available on the IZI Travel platform. The approximately 4 km walking route follows a single street and takes up to 1.5 hours at a leisurely pace. The experience is complemented by an interactive environmental installation at the intersection of Kaugurciems Street and Zvārtas Street, featuring life-size coastal fish species.
The historical narrative has been compiled by historian Inga Sarma and is voiced by actor Rihards Zeļezņevs.
