Summer Begins in Jūrmala: Seasonal Leisure Spots Reopen and the Cultural Season Starts

At the end of spring, Jūrmala gradually slips into its summer rhythm. Here, the start of the season is not marked by a single date, but by a process unfolding over several weeks, as the city step by step transforms into a full-fledged summer destination.

One of the symbolic turning points of this transition is the opening of the Great Hall summer season at Dzintari Concert Hall on 29 May, when sisters Kristīne and Margarita Balanas will take the stage together with the choirs “Kamēr…” and “Ave Sol”. The concert will launch a broad summer programme featuring classical music, opera events, festivals, popular music concerts, musical shows and international guest artists. In early June, the concert hall will host the 44th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition for Young Opera Singers, while later in the season visitors can look forward to the Jūrmala Festival concerts, the anniversary concert “Elīna Garanča and Friends”, the Sunrise Concert on Dzintari Beach, “Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala”, the ballet festival and many other summer cultural events.

Alongside the cultural programme, seasonal leisure attractions for families are also reopening. The Butterfly House in Dzintari plans to begin its season around 23 May. This tropical dome attraction is home to exotic butterflies and plants. Meanwhile, Jūrmalas Tarzāns and the Net Park are already open daily from 11:00 to 19:00, and from 1 June they will operate from 10:00 to 20:00, offering treetop obstacle courses and a network adventure park for both children and adults.

The feeling of summer in the city is especially enhanced by recreation near the water. The outdoor terrace at Līvu Akvaparks will open on 6 June, expanding the indoor water park experience with an outdoor beach zone, swimming pools and a riverside café with a spacious terrace. Meanwhile, in Priedaine by the Lielupe River, Seko Saulei is already offering a floating terrace and water bicycles, while from 23 May until October visitors will also be able to stay in the “sensory cones” — small elevated relaxation tents set 1.5–2 metres above the ground among the pine trees, overlooking the forest and the Lielupe River.

As the season gains momentum, Jūrmala also becomes a destination for water sports. The wakeboarding season at Delawake will begin on 10 June and continue until mid-September, while Ski Wake Jūrmala offers waterskiing and wakeboarding activities by prior reservation until October. For a slower-paced experience, SUP board and catamaran rentals in Dzintari are already available and will operate until September.

For those seeking stronger adrenaline experiences, the seasonal offer also includes high-adrenaline activities. Rope Jumping Sloka offers rope jumps from the former Sloka paper mill tower at a height of 47 metres and operates on Fridays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, underwater diving experiences will be available from 25 May by prior reservation and depending on weather conditions.

The seasonal map is further complemented by Natura Park Jūrmala, which is already open and offers nature-based and active recreation opportunities for families with children
