Swimming Season in Jūrmala: Beach Facilities, Amenities and Safety

The summer swimming season is in full swing in Jūrmala, inviting visitors to enjoy the resort city’s 24-kilometre-long beach and diverse coastal environment. Jūrmala has long been one of Latvia’s most popular summer destinations. Its beaches offer something for everyone – from a lively atmosphere, nearby cafés and the amenities provided by private beach areas to quieter, nature-oriented relaxation away from the crowds. Jūrmala also offers an opportunity to experience the closest possible connection with nature by following the tradition of naturist beaches.

During the swimming season, Jūrmala’s 24-kilometre-long beach is equipped with the necessary infrastructure, including benches, changing cabins, waste bins and wooden boardwalks providing access to the sea. The Jūrmala Beach Rescue Service (phone: +371 67740448) is also in operation. Public toilets are available for visitors’ convenience – their locations and seasonal opening hours can be found here.

During the swimming season, bathing water quality is monitored in cooperation with the Health Inspectorate, with regular measurements of water quality and temperature. Up-to-date information on water temperature is available on the official tourism website here.

The beach is cleaned and maintained regularly. Sea debris, including seaweed and algae, is removed every morning by 8.00, and the strip along the waterline is loosened. Household waste is collected throughout the entire beach area twice a day.

To discover the diversity of Jūrmala’s beaches and find the place best suited to your mood, consult the Visit Jūrmala Beach Guide. It provides an overview of the character and atmosphere of the beaches in each neighbourhood along the 24-kilometre coastline, as well as practical information on places to eat and enjoy refreshments, nearby attractions, rescue stations in specific sections of the beach, wheelchair access, toilets and showers, playgrounds and sports facilities, and designated areas for active and peaceful recreation.

Whatever type of seaside recreation you choose, it is important to remain vigilant and keep a close eye on young children. To help families enjoy the beach more safely on hot days, the Jūrmala Beach Rescue Service provides wristbands on which parents can write their contact details. This allows rescuers to act quickly if a child becomes separated from their family.

On hot days, wristbands for children bearing their parents’ contact details are available at rescue stations, helping families enjoy Jūrmala’s beaches more safely.

Jūrmala’s rescue stations are located in Bulduri, Majori and Kauguri.

All visitors are encouraged to act responsibly, follow safety and public order regulations, respect nature and the peace of others, and help make Jūrmala an even more pleasant and sustainable destination.
