“Christmas Tree Promenade” Unveiled on Jomas Street

The “Christmas Tree Promenade”, created on Jomas Street for the first time, marks the beginning of Jūrmala’s new winter tradition – a festive landscape that delights visitors and unites the city’s community. Alongside illuminated parks, squares and the main Christmas tree in Majori Square, 131 trees light up the promenade, each with its own visual story and atmosphere. The decorations have been created by Jūrmala residents – members of educational and cultural communities, municipal institutions, local businesses and creative collectives.

Spun and felted, shaped in clay and carved in wood, cut and glued, cast from fragrant soaps, painted and drawn; woven into straw puzuri and threaded with dried fruits; adorned with cones, beachcomber finds, linen threads and natural textures; 3D-printed, sculpted, embroidered and crafted in various handwork techniques – these decorations reveal both the creative energy of the community and the identity of a seaside city. Each tree becomes a small self-portrait, showcasing the makers’ skills and imagination.

As evening falls, the decorations are joined by the soft glow of the Christmas lights, while the space is enriched by the light spheres designed by the internationally recognised architecture office DJA – Didzis Jaunzems Architecture, echoing the motifs of the city’s main Christmas tree. A playful ice hut adds to the outdoor scenery, transforming Jomas Street into the “Christmas Tree Promenade” — a celebration of light, creativity and shared urban spirit.

Strolling and weaving through the “Christmas Tree Promenade”, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the winter charm of Jūrmala – savour a warming meal in one of the city’s cafés and restaurants, plan a relaxing SPA visit in a local resort hotel, or seek inspiration in the diverse exhibition programme of the city’s galleries.
