Discover Jūrmala This Winter – Events and Seasonal Offers
Even in winter, Jūrmala retains its distinctive charm. The quiet resort town welcomes the year’s end in its own nuanced way – with calm, warmth, and a gently muted festive atmosphere. Here, the holiday season means unhurried enjoyment: refined meals in the city’s restaurants, restorative spa rituals, and peaceful relaxation in hotels.
The city’s environment enhances the festive mood: parks and squares are illuminated and decorated with subtle, tasteful details, while Jomas Street, with its “Christmas Tree Promenade,” and the Christmas tree in Majori Square stand out as the season’s key highlights.
Cultural life remains just as rich at the turn of the year. The Dzintari Concert Hall – Jūrmala’s cultural centre for more than a century – hosts its Christmas Festival in December, and the city’s exhibition halls offer art experiences for reflection and inspiration.
The Magic of Christmas in Jūrmala
In December, Jūrmala glows with festive light – parks, squares, and streets transform into a refined winter landscape. At the heart of the season is Jomas Street with its “Christmas Tree Promenade”, where more than a hundred Christmas trees line the pedestrian zone, each with its own character and decorations, creating an open-air festive gallery. The city’s main Christmas tree, lit on 29 November, becomes the centre of celebration and lively activity. The street is illuminated by glowing light spheres and an “ice cottage”, adding a restrained yet expressive festive atmosphere.
From 14 December, Dzintari Forest Park also comes alive in a special light scenography – illuminated paths, star motifs, and the playful silhouette of an airship invite visitors to enjoy an unhurried evening walk.
Meanwhile, from 29 November to 23 December, the Jūrmala Tourism Information Centre hosts the Christmas Post, where visitors can send a warm greeting or a letter to Santa Claus – to share the holiday spirit with someone special. Find out more about what’s happening in the city at visitjurmala.lv.
