On July 15, the festival will open with pianists Sergejs Osokins, Andrejs Osokins, and Georgijs Osokins, performing with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Guntis Kuzma. The Osokins Trio is a renowned brand of piano artistry – a father and two sons. These virtuosos are explorers of piano performance and profound artists whose concert programs are always a celebration for lovers of piano music. Their joint concerts are notable events, offering deeply thought-out messages, and presenting the golden repertoire of piano music and classical masterpieces in original arrangements for two and even three pianos.
The concert will feature excerpts from the iconic Romantic piano concertos of Robert Schumann and Edvard Grieg, as well as Maurice Ravel's hypnotic “Bolero” in a version for three pianos – a dazzling dance apotheosis that nostalgically reflects on a bygone era. The program also includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s unique concerto for three pianos and orchestra, showcasing Mozart's genius in blending enchanting lyricism with intricate polyphony, and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Four Pianos in D minor, an arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins, Op. 3, No. 10 (L’estro armonico). This time, it will be performed in Georgijs Osokins’ arrangement for three pianos and orchestra.
On July 16, the festival will present the concert “Born in Latvia”, which has become a Jurmala Festival tradition. Musicians from different generations will share the stage – stars of Latvian music, including young talents, prominent artists of the Latvian music scene, and internationally acclaimed Latvian musicians whose performances in their homeland are always eagerly anticipated. Performers will include tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko, mezzo-soprano Zanda Švēde, cellists Ramon Jaffé and Polina Hlebnikova, accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, and other young Latvian musicians. The Jurmala Festival Orchestra will be conducted by Ainārs Rubiķis.
On July 17, audiences will have the chance to experience a performance by the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet. The ballet represents an innovative concept of flamenco, preserving the traditional roots of the dance while blending it with jazz music and contemporary ballet to create a modern and dynamic stage expression.
Founded in 2017 by Catalan dancer and choreographer David Gutiérrez, the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet has become an ambassador for the city of Barcelona and flamenco traditions worldwide. They have performed in nearly 40 countries, including the United States, China, and the United Kingdom, appearing at prestigious theaters and festivals.
Their performance “Luxuria” takes the audience through a world filled with tension, intrigue, dynamics, love, loyalty, and passion. The central story follows a man, his encounter with the great love of his life, and the inner conflicts of desire and destiny. Flamenco dance reveals the story's intimate nuances and timeless themes through its rich emotional expression, movement, and exquisite body language.
On July 18, accordionist Ksenija Sidorova will perform with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Andris Poga. Sidorova has become an ambassador of her instrument worldwide, captivating audiences with her mastery and charm. Described as an “innovator” (The New York Times) with “breathtaking virtuosity” (The Observer), she is one of the world’s leading accordion virtuosos, transforming the perception of the accordion from a folk instrument to one of refined artistry.
The concert will feature one of the 20th century's most magnificent symphonic works – Ottorino Respighi’s “Fountains of Rome”, where the composer portrays the beauty of Rome, painting its iconic fountains in sound at different times of the day. Antonín Dvořák’s optimistic Eighth Symphony will convey the joy of life, the beauty of nature, and the folk music of Bohemia. A special highlight will be the world premiere of a concerto for accordion and orchestra by renowned contemporary British-Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova. Sidorova has collaborated closely with Tabakova for many years, whose music blends Bulgarian folk melodies with echoes of Baroque and Renaissance, minimalist elements, and a shimmering pastoral quality.
July 18 will also feature a special event – the Night Concert, a new festival tradition. The concert will showcase jazz and bossa nova singer and guitarist Luiz Murá. Combining the warmth of Brazilian music with the freedom of jazz improvisation, Murá’s career began in Brazil, where he embraced and mastered bossa nova – a style inspired by samba and American jazz. Murá has performed worldwide, appearing in renowned jazz clubs and festivals, and collaborating with many acclaimed jazz and Latin musicians.
On July 19, the festival will present the “Gala Concert: The Most Beautiful Opera Arias”, featuring tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko, soprano Inga Kalna, mezzo-soprano Zanda Švēde, and Italian bass Vittorio De Campo, along with the Jurmala Festival Orchestra under the direction of Mārtiņš Ozoliņš.
On July 20, Iveta Apkalna, principal organist of the Elbphilharmonie and often called the “Queen of the Organ”, will perform at the Sunrise Concert on the beach of Dzintari. This concert has become a beloved Jurmala Festival tradition. Apkalna’s sunrise programs are renowned for their thoughtful content and dramaturgy, where the selected works harmonize with the sounds of nature, preparing the audience for the miraculous moment of sunrise and offering an unforgettable listening experience.
