Spring Cultural Season in Jūrmala's Exhibition Halls

(Fragment) Madara Auzenbaha. House for Starlings, 2025

Spring is the time when Jūrmala’s cultural spaces become part of a spring-inspired city walk – a place to enrich the mind and spirit awakening alongside nature. The exhibition program covers both classical and contemporary art processes and offers special programs dedicated to historical exploration. Discover the season’s most remarkable events!

Jūrmala Museum (Tirgoņu Street 29, Majori)

  • “Around My Blue Mountain” (“Ap manu zilo kalnu”) (28.02.–06.04.) – an exhibition by painter Madara Auzenbaha, where the color blue becomes a magical space between reality and dream. Inspired by mountain symbolism and mythical figures, the artist creates works reflecting a longing for inner balance and transcendent happiness. In the paintings, blue tones act like enchantments, warding off pain and evil, forming compositions as infinite as the vast sky.

Aivars Benužs. Red Sheep in a Tin Meadow, 2010

  • “The Speed of Darkness” (“Tumsas ātrums”) (28.02.–06.04.) – an exhibition by metal artist Aivars Benužs, where material appropriation and metal plasticity become an intellectual game between past and present. The artist experiments with reused materials, creating emotionally rich sculptures, environmental objects, and jewelry. Irony, grotesque, and existential questions merge into unified forms, challenging the viewer to a deeper interpretation of reality.

  • “1 + 1 + 1 = 1” (until 18.05.) – An exhibition on Jurmala’s history and its three former towns – Sloka, Ķemeri, and Rīgas Jūrmala. This display, dedicated to Jurmala's 65th anniversary, combines residents' memories and historical artifacts.

The exhibition features artists united by their passion for this unique technique and the exploration of its creative possibilities. The exhibition showcases works by B. Kalna, N. Zirnīte, B. Damberga, M. Maizīte Grase, J. Grjazeva, G. Priede, S. Štrauss, A. Šenke, E. Rostov, I. Troška, and D. Ezergailis.

  • "Latvian Botanical Drawings" (12.03.–03.05.) – A solo exhibition by Ilze Ozola, where the artist explores the tradition of botanical drawing, searching for a Latvian visual code in natural forms and cultural heritage. Diāna Adamaitė’s Sketch for a Wall Painting, 2024

Art Station Dubulti (Zigfrīda Meierovica Prospekts 3, Dubulti)

  • "Frequencies in Space" (28.02. – 04.05.) – a solo exhibition by painter Diāna Adamaitė, balancing between gestural notation and philosophical abstraction, evoking associations with Plato’s world of ideas – beauty, beginnings, unrest. The artist creates her works intuitively, called "experiences without experience." The exhibition includes paintings and drawings specially created for the space and two monumental wall paintings.

“Lielupe – The Lifeline. Archaeology in Jūrmala. The Known and the Unknown”

Bulduri Exhibition Hall (Muižas Street 6, Bulduri)

Ancient artifacts – flint tools, stone axes, pottery fragments, jewelry, and weapons – form a mosaic that unveils the life of local communities and trade routes. The exhibition invites reflection on the river’s role as a lifeline that has connected people and cultures through the centuries.

  • A chance to explore the art legend of Jūrmala – the studio and creative world of the outstanding Latvian landscape painter Valdis Bušs (1924–2014).

New Environmental Object in Kauguri Square

In addition to the diverse exhibitions in the halls, visitors are invited to discover a newly created piece of urban art in Kauguri Square – the environmental object “Mezgls” (Knot) by Uģis Traumanis (realized by SIA MetalProjekts and DJA – Didzis Jaunzems Architecture). The object symbolizes unity and references the history of the Kauguri fishing village, where knot-tying was an essential skill. The mirror-smooth, hand-polished surface reflects the surroundings – apartment blocks, historical buildings, a Catholic church, pine trees, and Jūrmala’s ever-changing skies.
